Kavieng

Talk about remote - Kavieng is a tiny town in Papua New Guinea that most people will never have heard of.  This is a very special place to hunt for the perfect wave, especially with the Kavieng Area Surf Management Plan in place, limiting the number of people that can experience this magic to 20 per day.  The sustainability and ecology management of the reefs under these breaks is paramount here.
There are waves in this region to suit most ability levels, however it is probably wise to consider the size of these reef breaks (often 6ft).  For consistent and friendly options, the guys here would suggest Nago Lefts and Long Longs.  For those looking for something more intense, look at hitting Nago Rights and Pikininis, a couple of breaks that require a decent skill level but will thrill.
Staying at Nusa Island Retreat, you will transfer out to the best breaks at the best times, but spots on these waves are limited, so make sure you book in advance to get the most out of this super unique surf experience.
